NAFSA Chooses Web Site Powered by Axiom®

Reston, Va., October 5, 2005 – In launching its new Web site earlier this month, NAFSA: Association of International Educators has deployed the Axiom™ platform, a Web content management technology that allows for easy storage, search and retrieval, and modification of content.

The new site provides NAFSA’s 9,000 members and visitors with more intuitive navigation, a comprehensive search capability, multiple document libraries, and a brand new feature designed for member interaction: member networks for 13 specialties based on job discipline. These communities provide directories of members in the specialty, practice resources, discussion forums, document libraries, and other community-based tools that facilitate knowledge transfer between NAFSA members who share similar jobs. The Axiom-based site was integrated with NAFSA’s iMIS database.

 “NAFSA’s Web site is a global meeting place for international educators,” said Bob Stableski, NAFSA’s deputy executive director for professional development services. “The new site offers the latest in online services, resources, and tools for international educators, especially the professional networks that members have been clamoring for.  Until now, building and managing those was too costly and cumbersome.”

After evaluating other Web technology providers, NAFSA chose the Axiom product was a good fit to help the organization streamline its content, which was the equivalent of roughly 1,500 pages.
 
“At the outset of these projects there is a strong tendency among organizations to create an organizational chart in place of a sensible navigation system, but this always turns into a problem,” counsels Adelle Emery, director of client services at Siteworx, the integration firm that implemented Axiom.  “NAFSA was very forward-thinking and welcomed the use of our methodology that takes user perspectives into account, so we were able to build the information architecture around them with Axiom.”
